Our leading marine mammal specialists have a wealth of experience and expertise, having worked across several sectors on a broad range of projects. We provide services to industries including aquaculture, port and harbour developments, tidal energy developments, floating and fixed offshore wind.

The marine mammal consultancy team offer a wide range of desk-based services, as well as visual and acoustic monitoring and mitigation services for marine mammals, allowing us to support our clients throughout the entire life cycle of their project. From small harbour developments to major infrastructure projects in offshore wind, we have the technical experience to support our clients.

Our range of marine mammal services include:

  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Site characterisation / Baseline technical reports
  • Scoping reports and Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIAR)
  • Marine mammal risk assessments / European protected species reports / Annex IV species reports
  • Report to Inform Appropriate Assessment (RiAA) / Habitat Regulation Assessments (HRAs) / Natura Impact Statement: Scoping and Reporting
  • European Protected Species/Marine and Wildlife (Derogation) Licence applications
  • Provision of trained Marine Mammal Observers (MMO) and Passive Acoustic Monitoring Operators (PAM/PAMO)
  • Digital Aerial Surveys (DAS): including species identification, and assessment of distribution and abundance
  • Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) including species identification, temporal trends in occurrence
  • Integrated survey design for DAS and PAM for baseline and post-consent monitoring
  • Bioacoustic data analysis and interpretation
  • Population Consequences of Disturbance Modelling (e.g. iPCoD)

Members of our team have been involved in the creation of global standards for equipment, developing best practices and guidance, and training of marine mammal observers (MMOs).
