Andy Gosney has recently joined the team bringing with him over eight years of similar experience gained with Network Rail.
As Head of Delivery for Data Management, Andy was responsible for the analysis of terabytes of infrastructure monitoring data produced by 14 Measurement Trains which operate on the GB rail network 24/7, 365 days a year. The specialist vehicles target flaws in the metal of the rails and use LiDAR to produce clearance data for sections of track making sure trains don’t hit any potential obstacles or obstructions. By using these methods his teams were able to ensure minimal disruption to the network but more importantly, ensure that the network remained safe for passengers and freight users.
From 2014 onwards, Andy’s teams supported the deployment of LIDAR and photogrammetry data from an ambitious Aerial Survey programme covering over 16,000km (110.000 image tiles alone) of railway as part of what was then Europe’s largest rail infrastructure transformation programme.
A role in data was a bit of an afterthought for Andy but following an accidental summer job at Ordnance Survey, he recognised the value of data, and a career was launched!
Switching trains for planes and other remote sensing devices hasn’t fazed Andy at all, in fact, he’s looking forward to returning to the private sector and the enthusiasm within it.
Andy’s experience will directly support APEM’s integrated geospatial solutions. APEM believe that the future of remote sensing is very much a multi-platform approach, whether it’s near infra-red, thermal, ROV, LiDAR or echosounders and GNSS positioning equipment. We have the equipment and a team of highly talented data analysts on hand to be able to provide the right solution for a wide range of industries, delivering ultra-high resolution imagery, independent environmental consultancy and expert advice.
Andy said: “I am excited to join APEM at this time, I am looking forward to growing the geospatial data solution capability within their already comprehensive aerial survey and data collection services.”
Dr Stuart Clough, Director, commented: “Andy has joined us at a crucial time as we expand our geospatial capabilities in the UK and Ireland, and further afield too. His experience gained working with Network Rail supports our multi-platform approach to remote sensing and his enthusiasm for data is a natural fit with the team.”
Welcome to the team Andy, it’s great to have you on board!
Andy is the APEM’s latest senior appointment and joins the operational board, watch this space closely for more updates!
