Thistle Wind Partners (TWP), a partnership between DEME, Qair, and Aspiravi, has appointed APEM to support two proposed offshore wind farms in the E3 (east of Aberdeen) and NE2 (east of Orkney) leasing zones.

We have already commenced our programme of ultra-high resolution digital aerial surveys and are also delivering a programme of LiDAR surveys which gives complete confidence in recording accurate and precise flight heights. Late in 2022, Natural England, the UK’s nature and conservation body, endorsed the use of LiDAR in their best practice advice.

By collecting data using LiDAR we are able to provide TWP robust, evidence-based data which will feed into collision rate modelling. The accuracy of LiDAR supports the need to account for the ‘envelope’ of the turbine blades as they change with the tide and weather.

Data collected and analysed by APEM will support the Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Habitats Regulation Assessments (HRA) which are due to be submitted in 2025.

Find out more about the project sites on the TWP website.
